DPL-CDA Professional League Season 1 Week 4 Preview

DPL-CDA Professional League Season 1 is about to enter its 4th and final week. The tournament has been full of esports betting opportunities so far, and this week will offer 10 more of them. We’ve also had some totally unexpected developments along the way. Several days ago, it was announced that Newbee was found guilty of match-fixing (not at this event though), which resulted in their disqualification from this competition and others as well. But in spite of this incident, the show must go on and in this article I will provide a brief summary of what happened so far and analyze the teams.

As you can see, EHOME is having a great time right now while Keen Gaming and SAG are struggling to win matches. It will be hard to dethrone EHOME at this point because there aren’t enough matches left to be played, but it will be interesting to see them perform in their last 3 disputes. No doubt, with what took place last week, no team will dare to throw a game or do something stupid just because the match is no longer relevant in determining the rankings. Even though Dota 2 teams are known to experiment with wild drafts when the result no longer matters, I’m quite confident that we won’t see such careless behaviors at this event. The permanent ban of the former TI champions and finalists has put a lot of fear into the competitors’ hearts.

Team Analysis

Here’s a brief analysis of the 9 teams that are left in the tournament.

EHOME has practically won the race

EHOME is playing the best Dota 2 we’ve seen it play since MDL Chengdu Major (9th – 12th) and that was 6 months ago. Since then, we have seen the Chinese squad finish 3rd at ESL One Los Angeles Online (China), 3rd – 4th at WeSave! Charity Play (China), 4th at CDA League Season 1, and 3rd at OGA Dota PIT 2020 Online (China). All of these regional results give us clear hints that EHOME is in great shape right now. Going into the 4th week of DPL-CDA Professional League Season 1, my expectation is that they will end up winning the event with a score of 8 W – 1 L.

Invictus Gaming needs to win its last match

Invictus Gaming only has one more match to play. The team currently has 6 wins and 2 losses. If it wins in this match, with a lot of chance it might win the tournament. But that would require EHOME to lose all of its last 3 matches. I don’t see that happening but in any case, IG needs a victory to have a bit more certainty that it will finish 2nd.

In recent months, IG consistently finished 5th – 6th at events, both regionally as well as internationally.

PSG.LGD is in good shape

PSG.LGD has two more matches to play. The team managed to win the title at China Dota2 Professional League Season 1. It then went on to finish 6th at ESL One Los Angeles Online, 3rd at CDA League Season 1 and 2nd at OGA Dota PIT 2020 Online. Based on these results and also past results from the last 2 seasons, PSG.LGD is clearly one of the strongest competitors at DPL-CDA Professional League Season 1 and will likely finish 2nd or 3rd.

Vici Gaming looks demotivated

In spite of having one of the best position 1 players in the world and being ranked 2nd in the Dota Pro Circuit, Vici Gaming often does poorly in these Chinese leagues. Take for instance their performance at CDA League Season 1, where they finished 7th. Immediately after it, however, they went on to win OGA Dota PIT 2020 Online (China). Quite clearly, this is a team that easily motivates itself to prepare for tournaments but not as much for leagues. Especially if the prizes aren’t very high.

CDEC has little to no chances of winning

This team is currently sitting at number 5 with 4 wins and 3 losses. With 2 more matches to go, CDEC has modest chances of beating RNG and very low chances of beating PSG.LGD. In both of these matches, the Dota 2 betting opportunities will be numerous.

RNG can win if it finds its will to win

RNG only has one match left, against CDEC. The team is not exactly at its peak right now, but you have to take into account their victory at ESL One Los Angeles Online and their 4th place at OGA Dota PIT, where 9 of the best teams in the region were present. A close look at RNG will reveal great qualities, even though these qualities don’t always materialize in victories. Much like Vici Gaming, RNG doesn’t seem very motivated when it comes to leagues. They’re more of a tournament team. Anything that takes several weeks to complete does not seem to interest them that much.

Aster should do well during week 4

Aster is currently 3 W – 3 L at DPL-CDA Professional League Season 1, and with 3 more matches to go, I expect 2 wins and one loss from them. It’s quite clear that they will lose against EHOME but they’re likely to beat Keen Gaming and SAG.

SAG got read like a book

After seeing them win the title at CDA League Season 1, I had big expectations from SAG. But it seems that they’ve already been read like a book by the other competitors. The Chinese region is known to have solid teams that do their homework. And if you’re not versatile enough to keep changing your playstyle, you will very quickly get countered with very effective tactics and drafts.

In a way, SAG’s downfall was expected. Such a young team cannot hope to keep up with opponents that have been around for 5-10 years and know the game like the back of their hand. Maybe with enough time, they will prove to be a powerful competitor. But for now, I don’t see them doing anything important.

Keen Gaming is struggling in its new formula

The problem with Keen Gaming is that they changed their roster completely. And the new roster isn’t very good. Or at least, it doesn’t even come close to beating the other competitors in China. And that’s why we see Keen struggling at this point. It will probably take a long time until this roster does anything notable. And it’s even more likely for the organization to start making changes in the next 3 months. Until we see a big change from KG, I’m not very optimistic about their chances.
